Ricky Gervais just put up the new poster for his latest collaboration with Stephen Merchant, Cemetery Junction , and I think I like it. The whole look of it really takes me back. Specifically, it takes me back to summers between college terms, when my dad would come home to me eating Bagel Bites and watching shit TV and tell me to “be somebody.” Maybe after Maury , Dad. Maybe after Maury .
The classic The Office/Extras team of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant is back with the coming-of-age-in-’70s-Reading film Cemetery Junction ! If this isn’t on the Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 list you make every year, you surely omitted this from your stupid list. Here’s the trailer (Sony seems to be pulling it from the YouTube, so make it quick):

One of the few things that keeps us watching Sesame Street well into our adult years is the constant parade of hilarious celebrity cameos interacting with our genteel muppet brethren. And the following clip is proof that this simple reason is all we need: Comedian Ricky Gervais singing a “Celebrity Lullabye” to Elmo . Why? Because nothing makes us LOL more than watching muppets in discomfort — which seems to be the running theme with these lullabyes ( thanks again , Andrea Bocelli ). What really makes this clip? Elmo’s “Crazy Eyes.” Ahead, an adorable clip of Jake Gyllenhaal with an muppety octopus on his head. The acting is Oscar worthy, no exadge.

It used to be that when you’d arbitrarily compare and contrast Matt Lauer and Karl Pilkington, the only inclusion on the “similar” side of things was “stupid bald head.” That’s all changing, friends. Soon you’ll be able to add “has a show where he travels around the world and acts like a buffoon” to that list. Says the BBC : Radio producer Karl Pilkington, best known for working with comedian Ricky Gervais, has landed his own travel series for Sky 1. Pilkington, who became a figure of fun during Gervais’ radio shows and podcasts, will visit the Seven Wonders of the World as part of the series. The idea was born after Pilkington told Gervais he did not appreciate the Seven Wonders, despite never visiting them. Gervais and comic partner Stephen Merchant will monitor his travels. “I can’t wait to get started. Not because I’m excited but because the sooner we start, the sooner it will be over,” Pilkington said. When he goes to see the Great Wall, I hope he gets to meet Hairy Chinese Kid . That’s one wonder he’ll surely appreciate.

You should really be listening to the Ricky Gervais podcasts. If you are already, good job. If you’re not… well, fine, but not listening because you “hate things made of sound” because they make you use your “brain eyes” is no longer a valid excuse (usually that would be a valid excuse). Soon, the audio series will be coming to HBO in the form of animation! No more using your brain eyes! You’ll be able to use your eye eyes! Here are a couple previews:
Good news for those of us with jobs that require us to toil through dreary awards shows to be aware of who/what our best movie/television people/things are. This year’s Golden Globes, which, since 1995, have eschewed a host in favor of dividing blame amongst various presenters, are going to be hosted by British funny person Ricky Gervais: Multi-talented Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Ricky Gervais (”The Invention of Lying,” “The Office”) will host “The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards” on Sunday, January 17, 2010 on NBC. This year’s show will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from 5-8 p.m. (PT) and 8-11 p.m. (ET) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. This marks the first time the telecast has had a host since 1995. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, dick clark productions and NBC made the announcement today. “Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down,” said Gervais. Expect a show full of intentional arrogance, genuine laughter, and, if we’re lucky, Karl Pilkington forced to make a fool of himself. Below the cut, a visual reminder of how Ricky made the 2008 Emmy Awards more palatable.
