Actually, there seems to be a love/hate relationship with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen… There's a year-end movie poll on Moviefone and, naturally, New Moon was voted the best movie of the year with a whopping 41%. And the…
Your last weekend box office report before Christmas. Print and laminate it for a quick gift. 1. Avatar - $73 million . Pretty impressive considering a massive storm hit the east coast, bringing with it mountains of snow and, somehow, the overwhelming feeling that from the Avatar trailer alone, everyone already feels like they get it enough to not even bother. 2. The Princess and the Frog - $12.2 million . Now that we have a black princess, it’s about time Disney gets to work on another underrepresented demographic in their princess universe: lepers. 3. The Blind Side - $10 million , nearly $165 fucking million total. STOP MAKING MONEY, THE BLIND SIDE. 4. Did You Hear About the Morgans - Only $7 million ? Maybe you guys don’t get the concept. See, the main characters are from Manhattan, but now they have to live in the country. Do you not see how funny that fish-out-of-water scenario would be? 5. New Moon - $4.4 million . One more week in the top five and it gets the canvas tote. Good luck! Weekend Box Office Results [Box Office Mojo]
Your box office top five: 1. The Princess and the Frog - $25 million . It turns out not everyone is as princess-racist as I am. 2. The Blind Side - $15.5 million . $150 effing million total. A friend told me he heard some frat boys at the theater this weekend asking for tickets to “the Sandra Bullock one.” What is happening, society? 3. Invictus - $9.1 million . Don’t feel bad, Clint Eastwood. No one watches rugby on television either. 4. New Moon - $8 million . Expect another decline next week, because I just promised myself I’m going to stop seeing New Moon every week. 5. A Christmas Carol - $6.9 million . Next, Robert Zemeckis will be making a creepy CGI adaptation of those dogs who bark Jingle Bells. Weekend Box Office Results [Box Office Mojo]
A confusing weekend box office for you: 1. The Blind Side - Despite being in its third week of release, and in the face of the wide releases of three new films and continued competition from New Moon , Sandra Bullock saved a giant boy (or did he save her…?) to the tune of $20.4 million , taking the top spot in he box office. What is happening here? Clearly word-of-mouth is at play, but whose mouths are these? And what are their words? 2. New Moon - $15.7 million . The profits for these Twilight things tend to taper off after everyone has seen it enough to get the entire script recorded in their diaries. 3. Brothers - $9.7 million , placing it third overall but first in the category “films that would be a really poorly-thought out way to tell your brother you slept with his wife while he was at war.” 4. A Christmas Carol - $7.5 million . Merry Creepy! 5. Old Dogs - $6.9 million . Godspeed into cultural obscurity, Old Dogs . Thanks for all the times you looked so outstandingly stupid as to make my job easy. Weekend Box Office Results [Box Office Mojo]
Well this isn't too surprising! Google has released their 2009 Year-End Zeitgeist lists and Michael Jackson comes in at #1, making his name the most searched item for this year. (The King of Pop died suddenly on June 25th…
New Moon beat out new releases to top the box office this Thanksgiving, with a $66 million haul over the five-day holiday, which brings its' total to $230.7 million. And that's just the domestic gross. Variety reports that the…
Note that these box office totals are for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. It will make a difference when you’re entering them into Excel. 1. New Moon - $66 million . $230 million total. Yet 1995’s The Baby-Sitters Club grossed less than $10 million. Adapting stupid 14-year-old girl fiction into stupid 14-year-old girl movies is such a perplexing sport. 2. The Blind Side - $57.5 million . That’s over $100 million in two weeks for Sandra Bullock putting on a shoddy Southern accent to rescue a giant boy. Figure that one out. 3. 2012 - $25.5 million . I suppose seeing Earth destroyed on Thanksgiving weekend made audiences thankful to know we live in the relatively non-disastrous world we do, with over two years to go until the devastating events of 2012 become reality. 4. Old Dogs - $24million . Note: this middling box office showing is in no way an indication of the likelihood of Old Dogs 2 . 5. A Christmas Carol - $22.6 million . The Fantastic Mr. Fox was just too much of an actually-funny-and-not-creepy-to-look-at choice for families looking for an animated comedy. Weekend Box Office Results [Box Office Mojo]
