Clearly influenced by The Proposal poster’s massive cultural influence, She’s Out of My League poster designers have decided to go with the same lady-in-profile-cornering-an-apprehensive-dude-on-a-white-background motif while also adding Jay Baruchel in boxers, offering a clear statement: “Yes, our film’s concept was indeed conceived at approximately the same time that Weird Science came out. What of it?” BRAVE.
How can such a babe be attracted to a man whose head is being painfully stretched by two invisible hands above his head??? It’s crazy . Probably my third-favorite wacky dating scenario after jock-dating-nerd-girl-who-ends-up-being-actually-hot and Stockholm syndrome . She’s Out of My League Poster [IMPA]
Wow, it’s been over a week since we last saw Nicolas Cage overact in a ridiculous wig. Maybe the guy has finally decided to stop doing all these inane action films and get back to–never mind, here you go:
You know the story. Boy finds freak; boy befriends freak; men in power see freak as threat and try to capture/kill freak friend; you sit through the credits hoping the darkness will hide your tears. And this time our freak is: the dragon. Because aliens and giant robots filling the role still were never quite nerdy enough.
It was almost two years ago that we got a glimpse of a trailer for Jay and Seth vs The Apocalypse , starring Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel as two guys trapped together Odd Couple -style after an apocalyptic event. As it turned out, the whole thing was a calling card for the two comedians in hopes of landing a deal for the film, and thanks to Baruchel’s and Rogen’s ability to work their way up the Hollywood food chain, it worked. Mandate Pictures secured the rights last year, and now Baruchel has begun to hint at a start date. During an interview with MTV Baruchel told them, “‘Jay and Seth’ will at the very least happen in the next year and a half for sure,” Baruchel also went on to say that Rogen and writing partner Evan Goldberg were already at work on the script. As part of their deal with Mandate, they even have final say on the story. But before you get too excited, keep in mind that Rogen still has to complete work on The Green Hornet and then it is going to be a toss-up between Jay and Seth and Baruchel’s hockey flick, The Goon . As to be expected, Baruchel was relatively non-committal about which project would go in front of the cameras first, saying, “Whichever one is closer to going, we’ll do.” I know which one I’m voting for, how about you? After the jump; the trailer that started it all, and some of my favorite end of the world comedies… Filed under: Comedy , Sci-Fi & Fantasy , DIY/Filmmaking , Trailers and Clips Continue reading Signs of ‘The Apocalypse’ for Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
The film following world has been rather skeptical of Disney’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice , which casts Jay Baruchel as the role Mickey Mouse made famous, and Nicolas Cage as the sorcerer. It’s one thing if they were returning to the Goethe original (though to be fair, it doesn’t differ much from the version laid out in Fantasia ), but they’re really just trying to go Pirates of the Caribbean with an animated short … which might have been okay if it had been Night on Bald Mountain , which drew its inspiration from Gogol’s terrifying story St. John’s Eve. But I digress. Because the point of the post is to introduce you to Nicolas Cage as the sorcerer, who is apparently ripping his look off Hugh Jackman’s Gabriel Van Helsing. All that’s missing is Kate Beckinsale, a crossbow, and a conditioning treatment to better copy Jackman’s flowing locks. Once he gets those, my attraction to Jackman’s fedora will be quenched. The pictures come by way of JustJared, who has a series of Cage flaunting his new look while filming in a New York subway. (Magicians — they take public transport like the rest of us!) In addition to those, Celebrity-Gossip also has some of Teresa Palmer. The only thing that has me curious about this movie is how Baruchel ends up as his apprentice. Because if I was approached by a “magician” who looked like that, I’d run screaming the other way. Before I start, I should probably tell you that I have a little bit of a crush on Jay Baruchel. Maybe it’s his pride in his Canadian heritage, or maybe it’s because he’s just a funny guy — either way, I’ll cut him a little slack no matter how goofy his idea might sound on paper (please don’t judge me, I’m totally weak sauce). The Hollywood Reporter announced that Baruchel has gotten the green light from Universal to bring his own creation, Johnnie Klutz , to the big screen. His concept is a lovable loser that feels no pain, and is a chance for the actor to show off his skills when it comes to physical comedy. (See what I mean about the idea not sounding so hot on paper?) Baruchel first made the deal with Lawrence Grey at Universal (who has since left the building), but the project really kicked into gear when Baruchel hooked up with Rob McKittrick, the writer-director behind Waiting …,” who came up with a story based on the Klutz character.” Well, the dude has come a long way from hosting kid’s shows , and has been making some pretty big deals lately. He’s already hard at work on the big-budget family flick The Sorcerers Apprentice , as well as the romantic comedy She’s Out of My League . So even though Johnnie Klutz doesn’t exactly sound like a comedy innovation, I think we can all agree that people getting hurt is usually pretty funny. Plus, anything that can help raise Baruchel’s stock and get Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse into production is fine by me. Follow Me on Twitter! It’s funny that the main reason that I recognize the name Teresa Palmer ( Bedtime Stories ), is as the girl who seemed to lose out on her fair share of high profile roles in 2008. But, it would appear that persistence really does pay off, because The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Palmer just signed on to star alongside Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel in Jerry Bruckheimer ’s take on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice . It has been almost a year since Bruckheimer first announced that he would be working on a live action version of Goethe’s classic poem (but to be fair, most of us are probably more familiar with the Fantasia version). Jon Turteltaub ( National Treasure: Book of Secrets ) will direct the story of an apprentice (Baruchel) left in charge of his master’s (Cage) magical workshop in modern day New York City. When the plucky apprentice decides to get a magical broomstick to do his work for him, things begin to quickly spiral out of control. Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal ( Star Trek V ) wrote the first draft of the script, which has since been rewritten by Matt Lopez ( Bedtime Stories ). So where might Palmer fit into all of this? (because if you are familiar with the story , then you probably don’t remember a cute blond anywhere) Well, where else could a pretty young actress fit into a Bruckheimer movie? Why the love interest of course! Although, thankfully she will be Baruchel’s love interest, because I think I have had enough of Cage in May-December pairings for now.
