Why don’t you begin, Harrison ? “Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] and I are sort of agreed on a germ of an idea and we’re seeing what comes of it.” Harrison Ford, 67, says despite coming up with an idea for the movie, people won’t see the finished product for some time. “The process works like this,” he said. “We come to some basic agreement and then George goes away for a long time and works on it. “Then Steven and I get it in some form, some embryonic form. “Then if we like it we start working with George on it and at some point down the line it’s ready and we do it.” Oh, brother. What MacGuffin now, George Lucas? How old will Harrison Ford be? And how will the film connect to a Dan Aykroyd-sponsored alcohol ? So many question I already fear the answer to. Let’s start blindly speculating! (via ComingSoon )
Seriously, he will never do it. Just throw that phony jawline beard away, Liam Neeson. Instead, it sounds like Steven Spielberg (director of Twilight Zone: The Movie segment 2 and the documentary short The Unfinished Journey ) may be moving on to a biopic on George Gershwin, which would seem to indicate the director thinks writing a bunch of music is more important than ending slavery (that’s the only conclusion I can draw from the decision). Deadline Hollywood says Zachary Quinto will play the composer, and has word that accent and dialogue coaches are already working with New Spock for a possible April shoot. Personally, I don’t know much about the life of Gershwin, so I’m just going to assume Gershwin had some sort of sci-fi adventure or archeological expedition that will make for another Spielberg blockbuster.
It’s a Christmas miracle: Paramount has announced that the Coen Brothers’ new adaptation of True Grit will be a special present given to us on Christmas Day, with the film receiving a U.S. release on December 25. I’ll probably still end up just spending the day playing with the same cheap slot car set I buy myself every year in the hopes of reclaiming a piece of my childhood that feels so distant in the emptiness of now, but it’s nice to know that I can go watch a well-crafted piece of cinema if I get bored with that.
East coast-tastic! That's right, it's finally happened. Long Island native turned Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has now met the boys and girls of Jersey Shore at the Vida launch at Voyeur last night… and she even Tweeted about it!…
So claims director Joe Johnston : It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction. It’s the origin story of Captain America. It’s mostly period—there are modern, present-day bookends on it—but it’s basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America. The great thing about Captain America is he’s a super hero without any super powers. Which is why this story, among the hundreds of superhero stories, appealed to me the most. He can’t fly, he can’t see through walls, he can’t do any of that stuff. He’s an everyman who’s been given this amazing gift of transformation into the perfect specimen—the pinnacle of human perfection. How does that affect him? What does that mean for him emotionally and psychologically? He was this 98-pound weakling, he was this wimp, and he’s transformed instantly into this Adonis. You’d think he got everything he wanted. Well, he didn’t get everything he wanted. The rules change at that point and his life gets even more complicated and dire. For me, that’s the interesting part of the story. It’s got some great action sequences in it and some incredible stuff that we’ve never seen before. But at the heart of it, it’s a story about this kid, who all he wants to do is fit in. This thing happens and he still doesn’t fit in. And he has to prove himself a hero—essentially go AWOL to save a friend. Eventually at the very end, I don’t want to give away too much, but he does fit in. But it’s the journey of getting him there that’s interesting. And it’s a lot of fun. In summary, Captain America is basically that sitcom plot where the nerdy teen gets to be friends with the popular kids but in the end defects to help out the old nerdy friend who liked them before they were cool, which ends up making them more genuine and, somehow, cooler.
Courtesy Def Jam The wait is definitely ova. Rihanna streamed her new single, Russian Roulette on her website today, and although it's a darker sound than we're used to from the R&B pop princess, we have to say we're loving…
Two things that have always bothered me about the Scary Movie franchise: 1) Why aren’t there more of them? 2) Why is there so much consistency and continuity in the series? Those issues will plague me no longer: CinemaBlend has heard from trusted sources that the Weinstein Company is planning to REBOOT the Scary Movie franchise. That’s right, rather than do Scary Movie 5 , the Weinsteins have decided to go for Scary Movie 1… Again . Sixth Sense references off limits since the first film are back on the table! Saw 3 can be parodied again! ( Saws 4-6 are obviously much more difficult to spoof.) Anna Faris’s character’s (did they ever bother to give her a name?) absence of any sort of character arc can be replaced by another character’s complete absence of character arc! This idea is so good, I dare pay it the high compliment of calling it “Wayans-esque.”
This is a little video montage of notable special effects from movies in the past 100 years all packed into a five minute clip. And as you’ll see, we haven’t come very far. I want to be able to feeeeeel the movies. I read Brave New World in high school! Also, almost half of a Shakespeare play. Now it’s all comic books and cereal boxes. 100 Years of Special Effects [collegehumor] Thanks to Paul, who once got specially infected by the government and now has the power of three men.
